The term self-sufficiency is usually applied to varieties of sustainable living in which nothing is consumed outside of what is produced by the self-sufficient individuals. Examples of attempts at self-sufficiency in North America include simple living, homesteading, and off-the-grid.
Practices that enable or aid self-sufficiency include autonomous building, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. The term is also applied to limited forms of self-sufficiency, for example growing one’s own food or becoming economically independent of state subsidies or public services.
Fusion Houses apply the term self-sufficiency not only in renewable energy but also in the most important resource for human beings: Water. Our houses may collect rain water which can be ether used for non-drinking consumption such as toilets, shower, irrigation systems, kitchen, etc. or we may add a purification system which can convert rain water into potable water for your consumption.
